We left early knowing it would be a long hot ride. And we were right. It has not rained here in months. The mountains were bone dry. We each carried seven liters of water to get us through. And we drank most of it. The path was littered with dead cows. A good reminder this is really inhospitable land. But, with the right resources very beautiful. With no stopping to enjoy the mountain streams, we pushed through and made it to Los Cerritos before the main heat of the day.

It’s amazing how much building has happened since we were here last year. More businesses, hotels and homes. Yet, still enough abandoned properties to feel like it’s a place of neglect. I still dig it. One surprise is the restaurant La Tuna. This was our favorite restaurant last year. So we had to have dinner at their new location. We even had the same server as we did last year in El Sargento. And it was amazing! We stayed at the same hotel, Desert Moon Cerritos Beach Hotel. Great vies, good bar and breakfast included. Now off to Todos Santos!

San Jose and Cactus Inn have been good. We’re filled up on taco and beer and ready to get on the route! Reports back from other riders are take a lot of water. All creeks are completely dry. We plan to roll out with seven liters. We’re once again staying at Desert Moon Cerritos Beach. Looking forward to seeing whales and surf bums. Till then night night.

Looks like my last post was last year as we headed into Cabo Pulmo. Well, we’re back for another loop around the cape. Looking forward to hot days, great riding, marine life, and delicious food. We’ll see if I remember to keep posting through our journey?

We’re heading to Cabo Pulmo for a few days. It’s likely we won’t have service till Wednesday or Thursday? If I do, I’ll update.

Our final big push, 50ish miles in the hot sun. We hit the singletrack going out of La Ventana. Avoided touching or brushing up against anything. Found the sand two track to the highway. Had ourselves a quick snack before climbing up and over the mountain. Once over, it was shoreline riding of punchy ups and downs till we made it to El Vecinos for pizza and drinks. Then finished it off with sandy roads to Los Barriles. The sun was out and intense. Along the way we got the wishful eyes of Turkey Vultures. Saw a couple Caracara birds. More flying rays and whales. And plenty of dogs, cows and horses. Today was planned for exploring the area singletrack, but after yesterday’s heat, we decided to enjoy the room A/C and get some work done.
