Flying internationally is always a long day. You just know you’re not going to get a lot of sleep and you’ll need to adjust to your new time schedule. This journey was no different. We did pay extra for Delta’s Comfort + which helped my jumpy knees and felt much less cramped. Our layover in Paris was pretty easy. Charles De Gaulle is HUGE. If flying through, give yourself extra time to navigate this airport. Our plane to Florence was a little late, but easy boarding and flight. However, when your pilot warns you that the runway is short and they need to make a “hard break”, brace yourself! That was an experience. We were happy to see our bikes and bags all made it safe and getting a cab to our Airbnb was easy. we spent the afternoon assembling our bikes then off for dinner. Walking through Florence is incredible. We had watched many YouTube videos, saw countless pictures and read many reviews. Like most old world cities, you just have to experience it in person. The sites, smell and touch of old stones…you have to experience it for yourself. At dinner we were warned, Italian are on Italian time. Go knowing your meal will be long. Three glasses of wine and two lemoncellow shots later made for very good start to Italian eating. After dinner we strolled the streets looking at sites and enjoying the night scene of people. Day 1 was an absolute success and we’re looking forward to what more awaits! Not sure how often I’ll update? But I’ll try.
